It all began with a phone call from my friend Tracey. I will never forget the day, I was working on a nice pool deck in Lake Forest. She told me she had recently gotten married and to someone who I had also worked with in the passed by the name of, David. How cool! What a beautiful love story. They had just purchased a home together and wanted to renovate the entire outside front, back and sides. They discussed with me what their ideal outdoor living space would be and I became very excited about the new canvas I had to work with.
It started off as city lot with a blank slate. She wanted all the bells and whistles. This was certainly going to be a fun project.
We established a design and the property was handed over to me. This is when having a vision comes in handy.
In this picture you can see we started of with the wall for the top tier patio. We used reinforced cinder block for this application. The cinder block will be later faced with a natural stone and capped off with a natural stone Indiana Limestone coping.
The customer wanted a very modern look. So we installed the Porcelain pavers with a 4″ gap. In that gap we installed artificial turf.
The top tier of the paver patio had the pavers installed tight and filled with grout.
The project took a total of 3 months to install. We were able to incorporate a fireplace, 2 tier paver patio, outdoor kitchen equipped with grill, sink, fridge and a pizza oven.
We install low voltage ambient lighting, artificial turf and all the landscaping you see.
Check out the video below of the finished product. We also created a video for Instagram that takes you from the construction phase to the finished product.
Below you will find the paver materials we used and a link back to the manufacturers site.

This project was by far one of my favorite projects to install. It provided just the right amount of challenges any project located in the heart of Chicago would.
